The original Franklin High School was a central educational institution for the city and surrounding community until the mid-20th century. Before 1940, it operated as a local school with athletic teams known as the Pioneers, competing in purple and gold. This era came to a close when the school moved toward broader county-wide integration and modern facilities. In 1940, the district built Simpson County High School to serve the expanding population. This set the stage for further modernization in the 1960s, when the current Franklin-Simpson High School was constructed to replace the aging city facilities. Today, Franklin-Simpson remains the only high school in the county and is situated in the city of Franklin.
