Eagles
La Center High School was a community institution located in the city of La Center within Ballard County, Kentucky. Its athletic teams were the Eagles, and they competed in the school colors of blue and white. The school served as a central educational hub for the local farming community for several decades during the early 20th century. The high school's independent operations ended in 1952 during a major wave of educational reorganization. La Center High School consolidated with Bandana, Barlow-Kevil, Blandville, and Wickliffe to form the centralized Ballard Memorial High School. While the new consolidated campus remained located in La Center, the original high school building was eventually repurposed and was recently converted into a community center by a local church in 2018. In boys' basketball, the La Center Eagles were active members of the KHSAA 1st Region. The program was a consistent participant in district tournaments throughout the 1930s and 1940s, representing its community in the competitive landscape of western Kentucky. The legacy of the Eagles serves as a foundational chapter of the Ballard Memorial "Bombers" athletic tradition, which has represented the unified county since the 1952 merger.
