Red Devils
Red Devils
North Middletown High School was a prominent community school located in the city of North Middletown within Bourbon County, Kentucky. Its athletic teams were known as the Red Devils, a mascot that shared the local spotlight with other small schools in the northern part of the county. The school served as a central fixture for the North Middletown community, providing education and a social gathering point for local families throughout the early 20th century. The high school's independent existence came to an end in 1948 during a significant period of educational reorganization in Bourbon County. Following the 1947–1948 school year, North Middletown High School was consolidated along with other rural schools—including Little Rock, Millersburg, and Clintonville—to form the centralized Bourbon County High School in Paris, Kentucky. While the high school moved, the building continued to serve as a local elementary school for several decades, maintaining its place as a community landmark until further consolidation eventually led to its closure as an active school facility. In the realm of boys' basketball, the North Middletown Red Devils were active competitors in the 10th Region and played in the 31st District. During the 1940s, the program was known for being highly competitive against its neighbors, particularly Little Rock and Millersburg. The Red Devils experienced a major high point in 1946 when they captured the 31st District Championship, just two years before the school was consolidated. This victory stood as a crowning achievement for the small-town program, allowing them to advance to the regional tournament and leaving a lasting legacy of athletic pride in the history of Bourbon County sports.
